(Episode 5146)

After being bashed, Penn is in hospital. Charlie is surprised to learn he has accused Alf of the bashing, Sid thinks she needs to be careful what she believes from Penn – he's done nothing but lie ever since he arrived. Combined with the needle-stick injury to Nicole and the clear bad blood between Penn and Alf, Charlie knows this is motive and she needs to talk to Alf about what's going on. While in hospital, Penn crashes and Sid is forced to operate to save his life. It's touch and go, Sid has to resuscitate Penn? Charlie questions Alf about what happened with Penn, but he stays mostly silent, refusing to talk about what happened. No matter what Charlie does, Alf refuses to open up, leaving her with little choice but to charge him.

Dex is more determined than ever to convince Marilyn that she is meant to be with him, not with his dad. He rehearses a speech, goes to see her, but can't seem to get the speech out. He falters, and just when it looks like it won't work, Marilyn receives the news about Alf being called down to the Police Station, and Dex comforts her. But the moment is a strange one for Marilyn, Dex gets a little too close and she asks if he has a crush on her. He quickly denies it and rushes out, but Marilyn is left unconvinced.

Nicole struggles after the needle-stick injury, she's been dropping the ball at school and Miles is glad to see that she's back trying to study. She confides in Miles that she doesn't quite know what to do about Penn – things are always changing with him, she never quite knows where she stands. Miles tells her he thinks that’s Penn's game – to create confusion, and she shouldn't buy into it. She's not so sure about this, and is even further thrown when she learns of Penn's bashing.

Ruby is still being very obnoxious after she bought alcohol and got drunk. She's rude to Leah, and Leah's not standing for it. Leah turns to Irene for help, when Ruby delivers an apology to them both. And while Irene buys it, Leah isn't sold, she thinks it's all an act Ruby's putting on so that people get off her back.

(Episode 5147)

Charlie tries to get Alf to see sense and tell her what happened with Penn, but Alf refuses to budge. The family are stunned to learn that Alf was charged, but Romeo in particular doesn't believe Alf is guilty for a second. Alf arrives home, but he still doesn't want to talk about what happened, insisting no one go to the hearing with him. Alf visits Penn in the hospital, but when Charlie sees him there, she tells him to leave – he can't be near the person he's been charged with bashing. When Penn comes to, he says that Alf wasn't the one who bashed him, and he doesn't know why he said it was.

After being sacked from the Surf Club when she sold alcohol to Ruby, Indi is trying to work out what she's going to do with no job and no money. Sid presses her to find something, when Irene overhears and offers her a job in the Diner. Indi is not sure whether she should take it, after what she did to Ruby. Irene assures her it's all fine, life is about second chances and what you do with them. When Charlie hears about what Irene has done, she is outraged, and Irene can no longer hold in her opinion. She tells Charlie she should be more worried about her own daughter and less about other people. Charlie thinks she's made a mistake and doesn't know what to do. Angelo has heard there is a food critic coming to town, and wants to be ready in case they pop in to his restaurant. Colleen fusses over the man she thinks is a food critic in the Diner, forcing Irene to pull her in to line. When the same man comes into Angelo’s and starts asking about the food, Angelo thinks he's in trouble, only to discover it's not a food critic, but his little brother Paulie.

Dex wants to smooth things over with Marilyn after she accused him of having a crush on her, but after what happened the night before, Marilyn is now awkward about the prospect of being around Dex. She thinks he does have a crush, but Sid disagrees. He's still concerned about the affect this is having on their relationship, and Marilyn believes he needs to talk to Dex and find out what is really going on. But when Dex sees the two of them together in the Surf Club, he can't bring himself to fix everything, so he just heads off.

(Episode 5148)

Smooth talker Paulie Rosetta has arrived in the Bay and is wasting little time before he lays the charm on thick and fast, but Angelo isn't pleased to see him, clearly distrustful of his brother's presence. Paulie tells him and Charlie he has another two restaurants open and is always looking to expand, but Angelo doesn't appear to be that interested. When he walks off from dinner, Charlie finds him outside, and wants to know what's going on. She thought everything from their childhood had been settled, and Angelo assures her it has been, but he won't tell her what's wrong. Paulie eventually comes out and confesses that he's in big trouble and he needs Angelo's help. This is what Angelo was afraid of, and what he knew was coming.

Liam and Bianca are still on library duty together, she's shocked to see him reading a book. It's “The Talented Mr Ripley”, and she wonders why he's picked that book. She guesses it's because it's set in Italy and she's Italian, but annoyed, he tells her to stop thinking that everything is about her. When she sees he's genuinely been upset, she apologises, and he admits that he was reading the book to work out why Italian men have such a hold on her, given she's the strongest, most amazing woman he's ever met. Taken by that, Bianca can't help but kiss him. They try to keep working together, but as the night comes to an end, they find themselves in each others arms, falling to the library floor...

Romeo and Indi spend an urst filled night, alone together, at the Summer Bay House. They try to distract themselves from the idea of physical intimacy with study and cooking. But soon, each little touch is too much to bare and the pair share a kiss. But just before things get steamy, they quickly pull apart when Sid and Marilyn arrive home.

Thursday 7th October 2010

(Episode 5149)

VJ has been writing letters to Elijah and he's managed to hide them from Leah. When she catches him in the kitchen acting strange, she thinks something is up, so she searches. She finds the box of letters, but she can't bring herself to read any of them. She asks Irene for help on what to do and how this is happening, but Irene isn't sure how VJ is getting them, or whether Leah should read them. That's really up to her. Irene thinks this is VJ's way of dealing with losing Elijah so suddenly, but Leah is upset that VJ is lying to her. When she gets home however, she decides not to confront VJ, instead slipping the box back in it's hiding place.

After giving into their feelings for each other, Bianca and Liam are curled together on the library floor. They fall asleep together, only to be woken by the first bell of the day. They slept in, now have to work out how to get out without being caught. They struggle to avoid the Librarian and eventually slip out, leaving no one the wiser, until Gina finds Bianca's scarf on the ground. She confronts them about what they were actually doing, and whether anything is going on, but they assure her nothing is.

The recycling project that April and Xavier have championed is being supported by John, but he's running it more like a military operation than a community effort. He makes sure Xavier understands that this is a favour to him, and Xavier better help him out. He gives them flyers to hand out, a task that Xavier isn't looking forward to. Alf tells John that people have heard about the potential ban, and aren't pleased about it, and John doesn't make a convincing case to Alf. John deals with a Townie in the bar and is improving the way he talks about the project, which impresses Xavier.

Friday 8th October 2010

(Episode 5150)

Both Xavier and April decide to apply for the waiter's job at Angelos – he wants a car and she wants to save up for a laptop. Both think they have a good chance at getting it. Xavier gets dressed up for it, but is miserable in the interview, struggling with the pronunciation of names and foods. He's disappointed, because the job was his one shot at getting a car. All is not lost when, at the rally, they spy an old car in the rubbish tip, and John agrees to buy it, as long as they work on it together.

Finding the box of letters from Elijah in a different place than when he left it last, VJ is concerned Leah has discovered them. He frantically calls Miles (who has been helping him communicate with Elijah) for help. An upset Leah turns to Miles to help her find out who has been helping VJ, but Miles can't keep up the charade for long, confesses that it was him. Leah is stunned and hurt. But she can't remain angry at Miles, later telling him that she's been writing letters to Elijah for weeks...she just hasn't had the guts to send any of them.

The rally for the recycling program is the next day, and April and Xavier make signs. John is enthusiastic – the media will be there, so they should be loud, really get everyone's attention. Gina thinks that if John plays his cards right he could make friends out of April and Xavier through this. At the rally, John is disappointed when very few protesters turn up – he had hoped there would be an altercation and that that would make it on the news that would further promote the cause.
