How does David end up making a pass at Tina?

“They get talking about old times, I think Tina's just looking for a bridge because she knows Graeme wants her and David to be friends, but David sees it as her coming onto him. He misreads the signals and takes her friendliness as a sign that she still fancies him. They have a few drinks then all of a sudden David's declaring his love for her and jumping on top of her.”

What exactly happens between David and Tina that night?

“What you see on screen is what happens. David pushes her back, they both stumble and he ends up on top of her. She says 'are you going to rape me now' and he's not but then that thought is out there and he panics at the way it looks and runs.”

Does he try and explain?

“After that he wants to explain and he tries to talk to her all week. He begs her not to tell Graeme but she just tells him to stay away and stop pestering her.”

How does Graeme react when Tina finally tells him what went on?

“Graeme goes mental and they end up having a fight in the pub. David tries to defend himself, saying she came onto him and he would never do anything like that but Graeme tells him to stay away from them both. He says their friendship is over and he's going to make sure David goes down for assaulting Tina.”

What does David do next?

“Afterwards Audrey and Gail are on at David to know what the fight was about. They're both giving him earache and he just wants everyone to leave him alone. He needs to get away so he grabs Audrey's car keys and drives off.”

How does he end up driving into Graeme?

“The next thing you see is Graeme walking down the street and this car coming from nowhere. The car mows Graeme down and David is at the wheel. Graeme rolls over the bonnet and he's in a critical condition. You don't see whether David meant to do it or not.”

How does David react to the accident?

“He's momentarily knocked unconscious but when he wakes up he claims he doesn't know what happened. He says he can remember getting into the car and driving, then the next thing he remembers is Audrey telling him about the crash. He wants to see Graeme and make sure he's OK but the police are involved and they want to speak to him first. David's fine but he remembers nothing.”

Did David hit him on purpose?

“David says he would never do that, Graeme is his best friend. But he's got a motive, he's still in love with Tina, he had a very public row with Graeme so all the evidence is there to suggest he did do it. David can't remember and he starts to wonder if he did do it, he's scared that maybe he has. He thinks a lot of Graeme and he just wants to remember what happened. He's almost convincing himself that maybe he did do it on purpose, he's in a bad way and he's scared. Everybody comes to the same conclusion - that David tried to kill Graeme. He's got a motive and he drove straight at him.”

Does he visit Graeme in hospital?

“He's not allowed near Graeme to even see if he is OK. He wants to know that Graeme is going to be OK, he's scared for his mate and he's scared that he's going to get the blame for it.”

Does anyone believe David when he says he can't remember what happened?

“All the evidence is against him and to be honest his defence that he can't remember what happened isn't great, even Gail doesn't believe him. Audrey is the only one who gives him the benefit of the doubt, she doesn't know what to believe but she says lets try and solve this. She can see that mentally he's in a bad way. He moves out of the Platts and into Audrey's because he's getting no support at home. Over the years David's done some bad things so him claiming he can't remember what happened is a weak defence in anyone's eyes.”

Is he charged?

“He's charged with attempted murder and he's terrified. Tina tells him to stay away from them, she hates him and she pledges to make sure he goes down. There's too much evidence against David and him saying he can't remember what happened isn't a good enough defence.”

What happens in court?

“He's waiting outside the courtroom with Audrey and David passes out just before he goes before the court so the hearing is adjourned. He's taken to hospital and when he explains the symptoms to the doctor they mention epilepsy. He's sent to a neurologist for tests while the court waits for the results. Tina thinks he's putting it on but the case is adjourned.”

Is he relieved as this could explain why he crashed into Graeme?

“There are pros and cons, yes if he has epilepsy the charges may be dropped but he will have to live with epilepsy. It's more like a lose/lose in David's eyes.”

Do Graeme and Tina the start to believe the crash was an accident?

“David tells Graeme about the possible epilepsy and he starts to listen. Tina doesn't believe him but Graeme is over the moon as it explains what happened. Graeme has a special bond with David so if he can see any window of opportunity to believe David didn't mean to do it then that's good for him. But Tina's not having any of it, she still hates David.”
