Dan O’Connor (Neighbours' Ned Parker) Interview

Daniel O’Connor plays Ned Parker, Steve Parker’s brother. He finds himself in a tricky predicament when an old flame from his distant past turns up - with an eight-year-old son, Mickey, who he never even knew existed.

“Ned tries to keep the peace and do the right thing as a father,” says Daniel, “but his current relationship with Janae is under threat from his ex. Luckily Ned manages to handle it well in the end.”

Daniel got the part of Ned after coming 11th in the 2004 series of Australian Idol. An avid singer, he honed his voice by singing in a worship group when he used to work as a youth worker.

Yet one of the most frequent requests 6ft 3 inches tall Daniel receives from Neighbours fans is to take his top off. “In one scene, I had to stand with a towel around my waist and then drop it,” he recalls. “I actually thought I had to be completely naked. Ever since then, I've had a lot of people who want me to take my shirt off!”

Daniel’s other TV credits include: Ready Steady Cook; Thank God You're Here and the quiz show, Australia's Brainiest.

He also appeared in the mobile soap opera, Random Place, in which he played Bo Edwards. The series, viewed via mobile phones, provided a fly-on-the-wall series of the lives of five 20-somethings sharing a house near Bondi Beach.

Neighbours makes its debut on Five on Monday 11th February 2008 in its traditional slots of 1.45pm and 5.30pm every weekday.
