Trinny & Susannah on… Shopping

Coming soon to ITV1, Trinny and Susannah are once again going nationwide with a brand new assault on five style issues facing British women today with Series Two of Trinny & Susannah Undress The Nation. Here, Trinny and Susannah outline their rules on how to shop successfully.

Trinny is a self-confessed shopaholic, whereas Susannah admits she can’t shop for more than about an hour and a half before she hates it. Armed with this perfectly balanced perspective, the girls are well equipped to tackle the nation’s terrible shoppers.

Trinny: “I could shop a lot, I mean I do shop a lot. And I do enjoy it, and I enjoy it as much going for Susannah or for me or for somebody we do on the show. And I love that feeling and that feeling for me is a bit of an addiction and that’s ok.”

Susannah: “I don’t judge Trinny at all for being a compulsive shopper because that’s what she does. I have an hour and a half window [to shop] and when I get past the hour and a half that’s it, nothing in the world will make me continue, nothing.”

Trinny and Susannah outline their rules on how to shop successfully.

Trinny: “These are things which are so simple that when we look at them all collectively they will help people shop better.”

1. Susannah: “Make a list. Make a list of what you want to get before you go shopping, look in your wardrobe and make a list.”

Trinny: “Many people, whether they’re shopaphobes or shopaholics keep buying the same thing. It’s usually things they feel safest in, or for a lot of shopaphobes it’s accessories because they don’t know how to dress their body shape so they rely on accessories. When you make that list you’ve got to think, ‘What is it I can never find in my wardrobe that I need?’”

2. Susannah: “Give yourself a budget so you don’t over spend and make sure you stick to it.”

3. Trinny: “Make sure you pay attention to your appearance before you go out shopping. If you’re shopping and you look in the mirror and you don’t like how you look nothing will look nice. A tiny bit of blusher and a bit of mascara takes two minutes and it’ll make the difference.”

4. Susannah: “No pop socks - pop socks kill any skirt or dress.”

5. Trinny: “Make sure that you’ve been to the loo beforehand so that you have a flat tummy when trying things on, those little things do matter.”

6. Susannah: “Create a capsule wardrobe, so that you make sure what you buy matches something you already have at home.”

Trinny: “The biggest mistake people make is to find something in the sale in an amazing colour that they never wear. And that’s going to stay in their wardrobe.”

Susannah: “You don’t have to go out and by hundreds and hundreds of items to have a good wardrobe.”
