- Jimmy does his worried fake-smile.
- Julie pouts.
- There's a shot of Sandy with a surfboard.
- Marissa is wearing a mini-skirt.
- Ryan is wearing a wifebeater.

Drink twice whenever...
- Ryan's past in Chino comes back to haunt him.
- Ryan says more than one sentence at a time.
- You see a comic book or Captain Oats - drink double if they're both in the same scene.
- Taylor speaks in a foreign language.
- Summer and Seth are on a one-episode mission for the sake of a good cause.
- Marisa hits the drink - drink double if she's moved on to anything stronger.
- Sandy gives some coincidentally well-timed advice.
- Luke's personality changes.
- Marisa has a sulk by the lifeguard hut.
- A whole section of Seth's dialogue goes completely over your head.

Drink three times whenever...
- Ryan punches someone.
- Ryan discovers a big secret.
- You actually see any of the teens in a classroom at Harbor.
- There's a car crash (or excessive swerving/skidding of any kind).
- A non-white character appears - drink double if they're not an extra.
- There's a montage - drink double if any of it is in slow-motion.
