Heroes: Season 1 Part 1
It's hard to have avoided the impact that Heroes has had on the British television viewing public in the last few months. Originally premiered on the Sci-Fi UK channel in February, the BBC quickly picked it up and in July championed it (along with requisite catch-up weekends and Heroes Unmasked chaser episodes) as "must-see-TV" in the same vein as the original launchings of 24 or Lost.
Heroes fulfils this heady hyping and manages to create a fascinating series out of an intriguing premise: several "ordinary" people are imbued with incredible abilities and must safeguard Earth and mankind from daily catastrophes. Derived around a comic book structural presentation, this first half of Season 1 (a paltry 11 episodes that are then joined by the remaining 12 episodes on the same day in December that the whole series is released!) is a superb introduction to the most consistently entertaining show currently on the box. The quality slightly flags in the second half of the season, but this boxset - whilst being poor value for money - is the perfect quick fix of Hero worship and will tide you over until Hiro gets his own inevitable spin-off show!
Extras: Original Pilot with commentary by Tim Kring, Deleted Scenes, Making of Heroes and Special Effects featurette.
Released 1st October 2007 by Universal Pictures Video.
