Shipwrecked 2008 - Meet the islanders
12,000 miles from home in a beautiful lagoon in the South pacific, a deserted island is about to become home for a group of castaways… Shipwrecked is back! But this time, the rules have changed. It may be paradise, but the gloves are off and it’s every Shipwrecker for themselves in the ultimate battle of the islands.
This year, each week’s new arrivals will bring with them drama, intrigue, tears and deceit, as the island inhabitants will have to make impossible decisions that will threaten the very core of their idyllic community.
As the two tribes fight it out to win £100,000 in prize money, this year’s Shipwrecked promises that only the fittest will survive, as a dramatic twist leaves all the islanders feeling that their future on the island is far from certain…

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
I wanted to meet new people, broaden my horizons, get more domesticated, lose my virginity, and see if I could handle life without luxuries and just to spend three months on a tropical island living the dream and having a laugh.
Your most outrageous moment?
I’ve had loads and most of them being part naked or naked. And pole dancing.

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
It’s the ultimate gap year experience. The perfect opportunity to escape from the monotony and routine of life. I’m competitive and up for the challenge. And of course…I needed the tan.
What were you doing before you arrived on the Island?
I’d been at Boarding school for the past 10 years. Just finished my A levels and enjoying a British summer of rain.

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
Who wouldn’t want to do this! Living on a desert island for 3 months didn’t sound too bad… if only I knew what I was letting myself in for hey!!!
What did you hope to achieve by doing it?
I really wanted to show people that girls can be hard core and that you can wear make up and skirts while chopping down a tree etc!!!

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
The challenge of living independently in a primitive environment. To take a break from teaching in order to pursue other avenues and more to the point find me a lovely lady!

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
I wanted to challenge myself and prove that I can put myself in any situation and come out the other side, hopefully a better person. I wanted to meet new people and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to wake up to this beautiful place every morning.
What were you most nervous about before you arrived?
The thing that scared me the most about this whole experience was definitely the people, in particular the girls. I was worried that there would be no girls that liked me and I would be an outsider. I find/found girls very intimidating and the thought of a load of beautiful cool girls just looking at me as the ugly outsider freaked me out!

I took part in Shipwrecked to enjoy a new challenge – I get attracted to unique situations and experiences! I knew this experience would test me – something I’m willing to try.
What were you doing before you arrived on the Island?
Before I arrived on the island I was working with some theatre companies and working at my father’s place. Mostly riding horses everyday and taking people on treks etc… it’s a hard life!!
What has been the hardest part of being on Shipwrecked?
The food. The food. The food.

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
I’m always being told that I can do so much with my life and that I am the type of person that can go far in life so I put myself up for the challenge. I want to have done something in my life that I can class as a huge achievement.
What were you most nervous about before you arrived?
Right up until the moment I stepped on the island I was completely bricking it thinking that people were going to be superficial and that I would be seen as this loud mouth ugly scouser and be hated!

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
My twin sister got me to apply to do Shipwrecked. I love to overcome challenges and what a better place to do it than out here to do that! I also need a break from life at home. School and wot-not, you know how it is. But I’m gonna put the blame on my sister for this shoulders for this one.
Your most outrageous moment?
Naked sunbathing…aww I loved that even though I have a girl’s bum apparently.

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
Who don’t!!! My life was becoming too much of a routine and I’ve always wanted to do something big to change that and you don’t get much bigger than Shipwrecked and plus I really wanted to get my own independence and have my own story.
What were you doing before you arrived on the Island?
I was working as an OSG in a Prison on the Isle of Sheppy working all week and living for the weekend.

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
I wanted to do something out of the ordinary. I applied as a joke with some mates as I thought I’d never actually get on, I wanted to take part in something that would challenge me mentally any physically, but most importantly I wanted to meet a bunch of new people and make the most of being young and free to do what I want.
What has been the hardest part of being on Shipwrecked?
Missing food, friends and family. A flushable toilet will also never be taken for granted. But I know how lucky I am to be here so I have learnt to deal with these things.

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
I hate day to day routine and thought this was an amazing way of spicing things up. I mean why wouldn’t you want to live on an island 24/7 with a bunch of randoms? He He!
What did your friends and family think of you doing it?
My family were very supportive, however my grandfather did laugh a lot and kept saying I won’t last two minutes out here! Ha Ha who’s laughing now granddad!

Why did you want to take part in Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands?
I wanted to take part in Shipwrecked Battle of the Islands to basically have fun, meet new people and become a more mature, better person, and grow my hair. You can never tell what’s around the next corner so make the most of life, and that’s what I’m doing.
Your most outrageous moment?
Doing 10 deep sniffs of the long drop for losing a game of poker.
Katie
Sadly the home-sickness is just too much for original islander Katie, and she bids farewell to her fellow Shipwreckers after just two days on the island.
