Lupin The Third: The Secret Of Mamo coming to DVD

The first of five animated feature films based on the hugely popular Lupin the Third manga character created by ‘Monkey Punch' (aka manga writer and illustrator Kazuhiko Kato), Lupin The Third: The Secret Of Mamo comes to DVD for the first time ever on 4th August 2008.

Although centred around the exploits of its eponymous international super-thief, LUPIN THE THIRD: THE SECRET OF MAMO plays out like an animated psychedelic spy thriller parody, combing the action, sexiness and exotic globe-hopping of a Bond adventure with the wit and bizarre hilarity of an Austin Powers movie. Packed with gratuitous nudity, plenty of swearing and tons of explosive action, this is one all-out fun anime that is definitely not for kids.

Could it be true that the world's most wanted master thief, Lupin the Third, has been executed and now lies dead in a tomb? Despite the evidence, Interpol Inspector Zenigata remains unconvinced and soon discovers that Lupin is actually alive and well and back to his old tricks. Along with his partners in crime, Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa, Lupin has set off to the pyramids of Egypt in search of a mythical precious gem, the Philosopher's Stone and Zenigata is in hot pursuit.

Meanwhile, sexy femme fatale and the object of Lupin's desire, Fujiko Mine, lured by the promise of eternal youth and beauty, has plans to double-cross Lupin by taking the stone and delivering it to a sinister and enigmatic scientist known only as Mamo. But what Fujiko doesn't know is that Mamo's reasons for wanting the stone involve a fiendish scheme that threatens the entire planet.

A true classic from the early days of anime, LUPIN THE THIRD: THE SECRET OF MAMO is essential viewing for anime fans, particularly those with a fondness for Studio Ghibli's ‘The Castle Of Cagliostro'.
