BBC One's The Passion coming to DVD
BBC One's landmark drama series The Passion will be released on DVD on 20th October 2008 by Acorn Media. First shown on BBC One during Holy Week, this powerful, compelling and moving account retells story of Jesus and his final days.
Starring Joseph Mawle as Jesus and James Nesbitt as Pilate with Ben Daniel as Caiaphas, writer Frank Deasy presents a new interpretation on the story of Jesus and his teachings and the profound impact his last days had on the lives of those around him. Set in Jerusalem 33AD has thousands of pilgrims enter he city to celebrate Passover, tensions between Jewish religious authorities and the Romans are running high.
When news arrives that a preacher from Galilee is about to enter the city's East Gate ridding a donkey, it promises to fulfil two of the most powerful religious prophecies on the coming of a Messiah and the mood becomes even more incendiary . On the streets of Jerusalem the crowds begin to gather .... and the week has only just begun. The events of the next few days will resonate through the next 2,000 years of history.
The Passion places the audience at the heart of the action by telling the story from three points of view – the religious authorities, the Romans and Jesus, presenting both a political and religious context of the story.. Produced by BAFTA winner Nigel Stafford –Clark (Bleak House, He Knew He Was Right) and written by Frank Deasy (Prime Suspect) the production was shot on location in Morocco with a very strong supporting cast that includes Penelope Wilton as Mary, Paul Nicholls as Judas and Denis Lawson as Annas.
