In the latest installment, Nanny McPhee appears at the door of a harried young mother who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war. But once she’s arrived, Nanny McPhee discovers that Mrs. Green’s children are fighting a war of their own against two spoiled city cousins who have just moved in and refuse to leave. LastBroadcast caught up with Eros Vlahos, who plays the spoilt Cyril...
How would you describe your character?
To put it bluntly, Cyril is a snob! However, he’s funny and king of the put-downs. There is a reason for his behaviour though, and he does change throughout the film."
What’s your favourite memory from the film’s shoot?
"I really enjoyed when I beat myself up as I got to do lots of stunts. We would be tugging ourselves around then collapsing with laughter afterwards. I’d sleep well that night too as it was exhausting."
Did you enjoy filming with the animals?
"Yeah, It was fun and the piglets are cute, but they were very noisy and difficult to hold - and they poo a lot, so it’s a love/hate relationship!"
What was it like working with Emma Thompson?
"Emma was amazing to work with as she was really supportive and gave good advice. I think she was a brilliant role model for me. She’s also very generous and would organise treats for us kids and she is incredibly funny."
Was it weird the first time you saw her in the Nanny McPhee costume?
"When I first saw Emma in Nanny McPhee make up it was really weird as she immediately took on a different personality, partly because she became the character as an actor and partly because she looked really scary. You definitely behaved differently when she was around. Nanny McPhee is a character that demands respect!"
Do you think there will be another Nanny McPhee film?
"Yes, I hope so. Nanny McPhee is a character that could pop up anywhere she is needed and the stories are timeless with a good mixture of humour and emotion."
What other films/projects do you have coming up?
"I’ve had quite a busy year after I finished Nanny McPhee as I filmed a part in a film called Third Star, playing a Welsh troublemaker, then I did a part in a sitcom called Summer In Transylvania. I have just finished filming a part in Episodes with Matt LeBlanc, in which I have an American accent, so that was great fun."
Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang is released on DVD and as a DVD and Blu-ray double-pack on 19 July 2010 from Universal Pictures (UK).
